Podgorica

is called Old Lady. Dignified in the patina of the past - classy and contemporary today.

Sung in many songs, Podgorica is a city that lies on five rivers and is located in the central part of Montenegro. There are 100 bridges on the territory of Podgorica and 29 in the city itself.

Sastavci or popularly known as Skaline, the old bridge at the confluence of Ribnica and Morač, which is believed to date back to Roman times, is something worth visiting. The promenade built next to Morača will make your tour unforgettable.

Go back in history with a tour of the ancient city of Doclea, 4 km from Podgorica, between three rivers, there are the remains of ancient Doclea from the first decade of the 1st century AD. Meduna, which is located about 12 km from Podgorica, Kuč region. Known for the monument complex consisted of the remains of the Illyrian city of Meteon, the church of St. Nicholas and the birthplace of Marko Miljanov.

Stara Varoš was the core of Podgorica during the period of Ottoman rule (1474-1879) in urbanism and architectural forms of the city, customs, way of life and oriental characteristics. The symbol of Stara Varoša is the Clock Tower, a building located on Bećirbeg Osmanagić Square. It was built in the 18th century by Hafiz-pasha Osmanagić.

This favorite romantic place in Podgorica is also popularly called Skaline. The old stone bridge at the confluence of Ribnica and Morač, which is believed to originate from Roman times, is the oldest in Podgorica. The bridge is built of one arch, is only a few meters high, and is built of river stones. The popular name is “Bridge of Sighs”.

The former winter castle of King Nikola I Petrović is surrounded by a beautiful forest park and during the summer months it represents a kind of artistic and exhibition scene. The central building is the Castle of King Nikola, which was built in the period from 1891 to 1894, and in the past was the official winter residence of the last Montenegrin king. Next to the castle were built the Perjanički dom and the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Dimitrije, which was also the family chapel of Nicholas I. The palace complex in Kruševac today houses the headquarters of the Center for Contemporary Art, an exhibition proctor, a botanical garden, as well as a music pavilion that was built at the end of the last century.

Njegos Park is located in the center of Podgorica and represents the green heart of the city. This beautiful park is perfect for walking and relaxing, and it contains numerous sculptures and monuments of famous people.

The Museum of Podgorica was built on April 8, 1950 by integration with the Modern Gallery and Gallery of Risto Stijović in 1974. This institution exists as Museums and Galleries of Podgorica. The permanent exhibition contains a rich archaeological, cultural-historical, ethnographic and historical collection.

At 4 km from the center of Podgorica, on a wide plateau between the Morača, Zeta and Širalija rivers, there are the ruins of ancient Dokleja, from the first decade and century of the new era. From the 4th century, on the eastern side of the city stands out the proctor where Christians live, churches and a large episcopal basilica are built. Certain precious examples of grave goods found – ceramic and glass vessels, pieces of jewelry, tools, weapons and money are part of the permanent exhibition of the City Museum, which is also worth visiting.

North-east of Podgorica in the area of Kuča is a monument complex consisting of the remains of the Illyrian city of Meteon, the church of St. Nicholas from the 18th century and the birthplace of Marko Miljanov, a famous hero and writer, today the city’s memorial museum. The remains of the town of Meduna, with partially preserved corner towers and ramparts, mostly belong to the medieval Turkish fortification. Next to the church are the graves of Marko Miljanov and his wife Stefa.

Lake Skadar is located not far from Podgorica and is the largest lake in the Balkans. This beautiful lake is surrounded by mountains and is a nature reserve with rich flora and fauna.

Lovćen is a mountain located not far from Podgorica and is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Montenegro. On it is the mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, a famous Montenegrin ruler and writer. Also on the 12th kilometer on the Cetinje-Lovćen road is the town of Ivanova Korita – the most popular tourist excursion spot. The Lovćen Adventure Park is located on Ivan’s Koriti, with many aerial trails and different challenges.

Cetinje is the Royal capital of Montenegro. The town is located at the foot of Lovcen between Boka Kotorska, Lake Skadar and the Adriatic Sea. Because of its authentic architecture and a large number of historical buildings, relics, monasteries, churches and museums, this city was named “city-museum”.

The only valorized cave in Montenegro is the Lipska cave, with a beautiful system of 2.5 km passages, a hall and a gallery, today it represents one of the most important attractions of Montenegro.

Rijeka Crnojevića is a small town on the river of the same name and is one of the most beautiful towns in Montenegro. In the town itself, the remains of historical buildings from the time of Ivan Crnojević, the ruler of Zeta, have been preserved, such as the basement room of a long-destroyed building that is connected to the work of the Obod printing house, where the first Cyrillic book “Oktoih prvoglasnik” was printed in 1494. At the entrance to the city, there is a stone “Danilov Most” built in 1853, and the oldest preserved building is the House of Saint Peter.

Biogradska gora National Park is located in the north of Montenegro, about 2 hours drive from Podgorica. This beautiful park is known for its beautiful lake and is one of the best places in Montenegro for outdoor activities.
